The Rev. Ned Mulligan

The Rev. Paul Mulligan

I was a trial lawyer for over twenty years before I was called to divinity school in 2003. After graduation, I went straight into schools as a chaplain, teacher, and coach. I served at the Salisbury School, St. George’s, Holy Innocents’, and St. John’s in Houston. While at St. George’s, I was the summer vicar at Emmanuel Church in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, for two years and then the priest-in-charge at St. Colomba’s Church in Middletown, RI, for a year.

We moved to our vacation home outside of Charleston in June 2026 intending to retire. I discovered right away that I was going to flunk retirement, so I approached the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina in July and asked them to help me find a call. They did just that, and I started as the priest-in-charge of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Hartsville, SC, on November 1. The parish is one that was returned to the Episcopal Church from the Anglicans after years of contentious litigation.

I have been charged with growing the parish, developing a successful stewardship program, and using my experience leading young people to bring teenagers and young families to church. Having spent most of my career in schools, having my own church at this stage is truly a blessing.

My wife Pam and I will have been married for 34 years in August, and we have three grown children and four grandchildren.
