A Beautiful End to the Season

The first Sunday in September was the last of the season for the parishioners of St. Aidan’s Chapel. Labor Day weekend delivered perfect weather as folks gathered under the beech tree to attend the communion service and hear Bishop Carol Gallagher’s thoughtful sermon. Once again she concluded her comments with a gentle hymn, sung to all from her pulpit. The community welcomed back Bishop Carol and her husband, Mark, for the second time, with warm applause and enthusiasm.

The 11-week season included 14 communion services led by five visiting clergy; baptisms, weddings, and burials; the consecration of the newly expanded Memorial Garden; and a festive social at the Casino. Generous outreach grants were given to several non-profit organizations in New Bedford and attendance was up every Sunday, rain or shine. A new tradition was born as children rang the bell at the end of every service. Dozens of volunteers supported the functioning of the Chapel with unfailing commitment to the common good. It was a terrific summer, with Christ’s love evident to all.

Have a healthy, happy, and soulful year and we will gather again in June of 2024!
