In the Summer of 2020, George Andrews led a Clergy Search Committee to replace the departing Rev. Maribeth Conroy. (Originally, she had planned that 2020 would be her last summer, but the Covid-19 pandemic upended that idea.) Happily for our community, Maribeth will be returning this summer, her last at St. Aidan’s. After a national search and comprehensive vetting process, two candidates were recommended by the Search Committee and approved by the Standing Committee. Joining us this summer for the first time will be The Rev. Canon Arlette D. Benoit Joseph and The Rev. Kit Lonergan.
Special thanks to George, Pam McNamara, Winnie Phyfe, Stewart Forbes, Merita Hopkins, Elaine Murphy, Barbara Mulville, and Jane Reynolds for all of their efforts to locate such talented clergy for 2021.
The Clergy Search Committee has now evolved to become the “Clergy Welcome and Support Committee,” led by George Andrews.
The committee’s responsibilities include orienting and welcoming Arlette and Kit to St. Aidan’s and the greater South Dartmouth/New Bedford communities; facilitating opportunities for the new clergy to meet members of the St. Aidan’s Chapel family, and introducing them to their other colleagues serving the Chapel in 2021.
In addition, a “Communications Committee” has also been added to develop an updated Web Site; coordinate announcements, news, and the calendar; and manage efficient and timely mailings throughout the year. The Communications Committee is led by Jane Reynolds.
